This product is a colorless to slightly yellow oily liquid with aromatic odor.
This product is easily soluble in methanol, ethanol or chloroform, and slightly soluble in water.
Relative density
The relative density of this product (General Rule 0601) is 0.992~0.996.
Refractive index
The refractive index of this product (General Rule 0622) is 1.517~1.522.
Identification
1. Take 10mL of nitric acid solution (1→2), put it in a test tube, add 5 drops of 5% potassium dichromate solution, shake well, add 2 drops of this product, and after shaking, the solution appears light blue.
2. Take this product, add ethanol to make a solution containing 0.5 mg per 1 mL, and measure it according to the UV-Vis spectrophotometry (General Rule 0401). The maximum absorption is at wavelengths of 247nm, 252nm, 258nm and 264nm.
3. The infrared absorption spectrum of this product should be consistent with the reference spectrum (spectral set 232).

Take the absorbance measured under identification 2, and the ratio of the absorbance at 247nm to the absorbance at 258nm shall not exceed 0.79.
Content determination
Take about 0.8g of this product, weigh accurately, add 5mL of freshly prepared acetic anhydride-pyridine (1;4), attach a reflux condenser, heat in a water bath for 1 hour, add 10mL of water, continue heating for 10 minutes, cool, wash the condenser and bottleneck with 10mL of butanol (neutral to phenolphthalein indicator), add 2 drops of phenolphthalein indicator, titrate with sodium hydroxide titration solution (0.5mol/L), and correct the titration result with a blank test. Each 1mL of sodium hydroxide titration solution (0.5mol/L) is equivalent to 68.10mg of C9H12O.
